John 10:10
“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I have come that they may have life, and have it in all its fullness.”
Some years ago when my son and I were traveling through a little bitty town. We went into a restaurant where they took marker pens that detects counterfeit bills. They tested a one dollar bill. I was astounded that they took the trouble to check such a low value bill. They were just being cautious. After all, a counterfeit bill works because it looks enough like the real thing to fool someone.
False teaching can work the same way. It may sound sincere or spiritual, but John 10 reminds us that spiritual danger does not always look dangerous. Jesus told us that false prophets come in sheep’s clothing.
We should never accept something simply because we trust the person saying it. We must test what we hear by the Word of God.
A trusted voice must never replace God’s voice.
Prayer: Father, help me test every voice by Your Word and faithfully follow only Your truth.
