Acts 5:29
“We must obey God rather than men!”
The early Christians had bills to pay. Some of them made images for pagan temples. They never worshiped the idols. They only made and polished them for sale. What was the harm? After all, they said, “We have to live.”
Tertullian, a fellow believer, answered, “Must you live?”
Their excuse sounds familiar. Somebody will do it anyway, and I have to make a living.
He saw only one must. We must be faithful to Jesus Christ. Faithful when it costs us, faithful when it is easy, faithful in life or in death.
As the apostle Peter said, “We must obey God rather than men!”
Society still urges us toward things Christ would never do. The pressure is real. You know the excuses. Everyone does it. It pays the bills. Someone else will do it if I don’t.
No, we do not have to go along. We do not even have to live. We only have to be faithful.
Prayer: Lord, make me faithful when it costs me. Help me obey You above every voice.
