Psalm 37:7
“Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for Him.”
I don’t remember the man or what he even looked like, but he gave me one of the best pieces of advice I’ve ever received. After high school and before college, I worked at a steel mill. It was hot in that place, and I couldn’t wait for school to start. One hot July day, I casually mentioned to him that I couldn’t wait until September when college began. His response still echoes in my heart: “Don’t do it. Don’t wish your life away.”
My impatience for tomorrow was causing me to miss the good in today. Over the decades since, whenever I catch myself longing for what’s ahead, I hear those words again: “Don’t wish your life away.”
How is your patience? Are you so focused on the joy of tomorrow that you miss the good in front of you today?
The psalmist urged us to: “Wait patiently for Him.”
Prayer thought: “Oh Lord, help us be a patient people who simply trust in You.”
