Exodus 20:12
“Honor your father and mother, so that your days may be long in the land that the LORD your God is giving you.”
I remember Lilly. She grew up under an abusive mother, carrying wounds that never fully healed. Yet when her mother needed a home in her old age, it was not one of the favored sisters who took her in. It was Lilly who opened her door.
When asked how she could be so generous to someone who had treated her badly, Lilly said, “Because it’s not about her. It is about me.”
Her words have stayed with me. Thank you, Lilly, for your wisdom.
By the way, when God gave the Ten Commandments, honoring father and mother was among them. It’s a shame how often folks overlook it.
Prayer: Lord, help me honor others faithfully, not because they deserve it, but because I choose You.
