1 Timothy 3:2
“Now the overseer is to be above reproach, faithful to his wife, temperate, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach.”
It is easy to read this verse as a job description for elders. But a deeper principle rises, one that touches all of us. It is the quiet secret behind all true instruction. Teaching never begins with words. It begins with a life. We cannot ask others to walk a road we refuse to travel ourselves. Authority without character is just noise.
If a supervisor wants punctuality, she must be first through the door. If a parent wants honesty, he must tell the truth even when a lie is easier. If a coach wants discipline, his own habits must speak before his whistle does.
One writer said it well, “My father didn’t tell me how to live; he lived, and let me watch him do it.”
Let your character teach before your words ever get the chance.
Prayer: Lord, Let my life teach truth before my words ever do.
