1 John 2:1
“My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you will not sin.”
At first this looks like the apostle writing to tell the people not to sin. There is more. Notice how John refers to his fellow Christians as “My little children.”
Who was this gentle old apostle that would use such a greeting. Of course he was the Apostle John. Do you remember what Jesus said about him in the early days. In Mark 3:17, Jesus referred to both John and his brother as “Sons of Thunder.” He was a fiery person. In Mark 9, he wanted to call down fire on a Samaritan village because they would not let Jesus pass through their village.
Now a few years later he is the beloved Apostle who refers to others as “My little children.”
How did this change happen? When did it happen. He changed because he spent time in the presence of Jesus. As to when, it was probably a process of growth.
Our growth and that of others may take time. Be patient. God is not finished with you or them.
