Growing Better

Revelation 2:19

“I know your deeds, your love, your faith, your service, your perseverance, and your latter deeds are greater than your first.”

What a beautiful compliment! Jesus told these Christians that their later works were greater than their earlier ones. They had not simply grown older. They had also grown better.

I suppose most of us have reached an age when we realize there are things we cannot do as easily as we once did. We tire sooner, move more slowly, and sometimes wish we had the strength of younger days.

But here is something worth remembering. We may not be as strong as we once were, but we can be kinder. We can become more patient, more forgiving, and more loving.

I love that Jesus noticed what these Christians were becoming, not just what they had been.

Maybe our strongest years are behind us, but our best years are not.

Growing older just happens. Growing better is a choice we can make every day.

Prayer: Lord, as my strength fades, help my love, patience, kindness, and faith continue growing stronger.

I’m Lonnie Davis, and this is a thought worth thinking.
