Matthew 1:18
“This is how the birth of Jesus Christ came about: His mother Mary was pledged in marriage to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be with child through the Holy Spirit.”
Joseph and Mary were looking forward to marriage and the future they would share. Then God stepped into their plans.
The blessing was wonderful, but it brought enormous challenges. Mary was expecting a child, and Joseph knew it was not his. Imagine Joseph’s thinking, the situation looked wrong. Family, friends, and neighbors would surely have questions, suspicions, and judgments. Joseph even considered ending the engagement.
Joseph’s dreams of a normal life must have seemed shattered. Yet if it was difficult for him, it was likely even harder for Mary. She knew the truth, but who would believe her?
Most of us have faced moments when God’s plan interrupted our plans. Yes, we know what it feels like to face uncertainty, and the opinions of others.
What makes Joseph and Mary remarkable is their response. Joseph obeyed God’s message. Mary simply said, “Behold the handmaid of the Lord.”
Often God’s blessings arrive wrapped in unexpected challenges. Like Mary, we must learn to say, “Lord, whatever You say, that is my plan.”
Prayer: Lord, help me always trust Your plans above mine.
