Teachable Hearts

Our focus today is Psalm 25:9

“He guides the humble in justice, and teaches the humble his way.”

There’s a frankness in this verse that is easy to miss. He guides the humble and teaches the humble His way. Not the strong. Not the self-assured. The humble!

Years ago, my teenage son wanted to play golf. I proudly told a retired Hall of Fame golfer I knew that my son wanted to learn the game. He simply told me, “Don’t you teach him!”

I had to admit that I knew almost nothing about golf, and most of what I did know was not very helpful. I gladly followed his advice since he knew more about golf in his little finger than I did in my whole life. I suspect most of us would have done the same thing.

If I could hand over my son’s golf instruction to a man who had proven his way was better than mine, why would I resist doing the same thing with God?

Not just about golf, but about life itself.

Listen to what He says. He knows!

Prayer: Lord, help me lay down my pride and give me a teachable heart.

I’m Lonnie Davis, and these are thoughts worth thinking.
