Learning from Adam

Genesis 2:18

“It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make for him a suitable helper.”

Adam had everything. Every creature. Every fruit. Every sunrise over a perfect garden. And a walking, talking friendship with God Himself. Yet God looked at Adam and said something He had never said before — “not good.” For the first time in creation, something was missing.

Adam had no one like him.

So God made Eve. And when Adam saw her, he was complete. The Hebrew tells the story beautifully. The word for “man” is ish. Woman is ishah. She is “Ish Ishah.”She is like me,” Adam was saying, “yet different. She came from me, but now she stands beside me.” Not beneath him. Not above him, but beside him. Bone of his bones. Flesh of his flesh. Words of closeness, honor, and belonging.

We are all Adam. We were made for someone not us, but like us.

I’m Lonnie Davis and these are thoughts worth thinking.

Suggested Prayer: Thank You, God, for making someone to walk beside us.
