Psalm 40:1
“I waited patiently for the LORD, and He inclined to me and heard my cry.”
When you were a child, did you ever beg to open just one present before Christmas morning? Waiting patiently is hard, even over small things. The phrase in our text today, “waited patiently,” carries the sense of waiting and waiting more.
Scripture has many who lived this out. An elderly Abraham and Sarah were promised a son, yet God had them wait 25 years before that promise was fulfilled. Joseph had dreams about his future, but before they came true, he spent years in slavery and prison. He had every reason to grow bitter. Instead, he waited, trusting there was a purpose he couldn’t yet see. David after he was anointed, spent many years running, hiding, and living as a fugitive. Yet, he waited on God’s timing.
God’s great people all shared the ability to wait patiently, to wait and wait. When you find yourself waiting, remember that you are in good company, the company of Godly men and women who trusted God’s timing over their own.
Prayer: Lord, calm my heart to wait for You without doubting or growing anxious inside.
