“Flee from youthful passions and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace, together with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.”
Temptation visits every one of us. The real issue is what happens in the next moment. Paul’s counsel is wonderfully direct: run. Some victories aren’t won by fighting but by creating distance. That’s true of every sin. So name your weakness and then stay far from its doorway.
There’s an old saying: you can’t stop birds from flying overhead, but you can keep them from building a nest in your hair. In a world eager to find our temptations, distance becomes a form of wisdom.
A friend once joked, “Being on a diet doesn’t mean you can’t go into the donut shop.” Maybe the wiser answer is “Yes, it does.”
Prayer: Lord, give me clear eyes to recognize temptation and the courage to run.
