God Follows Through

Numbers 23:19

God is not a man, that He should lie, nor a son of man, that He should change His mind. Does He speak and not act? Does He promise and not fulfill?”

I saw a boy test his mother’s patience in real time. He stood at the edge of the road, one foot hovering over the pavement, and she warned him plainly: step onto that road and there will be punishment. He stepped anyway, daring her to follow through. When she rose and started toward him, belt in hand, he suddenly believed her. He darted back to safety at the very last second.

What strikes me about that moment is how ordinary it is. We do the same thing with God. We hear His warnings, His promises, His clear boundaries, and some part of us wonders if He really means it. Will He actually act? Will He really follow through, or will delay soften into forgetfulness?

Numbers 23 answers that question. This isn’t meant to frighten us but to help us. His consistency means we can trust every warning, but also His every promise.

I’m Lonnie Davis and these are thoughts worth thinking.

Prayer thought: Lord, let me trust Your Word fully, both its warnings and its promises.
