The First Miracle

Genesis 1:1

“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.”

Life begins with a miracle, and Genesis 1 reminds us that existence itself is not an accident but the result of God’s deliberate, powerful act.

Many people say they don’t believe in God, because they cannot accept the idea of a miracle. Yet the irony is that every person already believes in at least one miracle: the miracle of life.

If someone rejects God because miracles seem impossible, we can ask: Why is there something rather than nothing? If life is not a miracle, then how did it begin? The only alternative is that life has always existed, an idea very few atheists embrace. Whether we consider the first spark of life or the first moment of the universe, both require something beyond natural explanation. Both require a miracle.

Genesis 1 declares that behind every miracle stands God Himself. I believe in God because I see life, the sun, the moon, the stars, and purpose. These things point to a miracle.

Because a miracle happened, I believe in God.

I’m Lonnie Davis, and these are thoughts worth thinking.

Prayer: Thank You, God, for being a God of beginnings.
