Isaac’s Lesson

Genesis 21:2-3

“So Sarah conceived and bore a son to Abraham in his old age, at the very time God had promised. And Abraham gave the name Isaac to the son Sarah bore to him.”

Isaac was born to elderly parents. Nearly sacrificed on an altar, he fathered Jacob and became grandfather to the twelve tribes of Israel. There are many wonderful lessons he could teach us, but there is one lesson that most folks overlook.

Genesis 26, tells us that Isaac was forced into Philistine territory. He needed water to survive, so his servants dug wells. The Philistines stole them. He moved. They dug again. The Philistines stole again. He moved again. No argument. No retaliation. He dug another well and this time, no one came to fight. Isaac didn’t win every argument. He won something better. He won peace.

Knowing when to fight and when to simply move on, is a lesson worth learning.

I’m Lonnie Davis, and these are thoughts worth thinking.

Prayer: Lord, teach us when to stand our ground and when to quietly move on.
