Genesis 16:13  

“You are the God who sees me.”

Have you ever walked into a room full of people and felt like nobody even noticed you were there? Hagar knew that feeling in a much deeper way. She was a servant, a foreigner, and now she was alone in the wilderness.

People often notice position. God notices people. Others saw a servant. God saw Hagar.

There is a difference between being alone and being unseen. Hagar was alone, but she was never outside God’s sight.

Jesus said that God notices even the sparrows and knows the number of hairs on our heads (Luke 12:6-7). Think about that. The God who sees billions of people still sees you.

You may sometimes feel overlooked, but you are never unseen.

Prayer: Father, when I feel unnoticed and alone, remind me that You always see and care for me.

1 Peter 5:5
“Clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because, ‘God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.'”

Someone once said, “Life is a movie, and we are the star. Everyone else is an extra in our movie.”

Think about that. From the moment we wake up, the camera seems to follow us. We hear our thoughts. We feel our hurts. We carry our worries. We know what we want and notice when we do not get it. Without even trying, we become the main character in almost every scene.

And that is where humility gets difficult. It is easy to be humble before God. After all, He is God! But Peter says, “Clothe yourselves with humility toward one another.”

What does that look like?

When we are wrong and are criticized for it, humility listens instead of always needing to speak or defend itself. It can admit, “I was wrong.” It is able to say, “I’m sorry” and mean it. It lets someone else receive the credit. It does not have to win every argument. It notices people and treats them as important.

Maybe humility begins when we realize that other people are not extras in our story. They have their own hurts, hopes, worries, and dreams. In God’s eyes, they matter just as much as we do.

Prayer: Father, clothe me with humility today, and help me value other people for who they are.
