Try Again

Proverbs 24:16

“For though a righteous man falls seven times, he rises again, but the wicked stumble in times of calamity.”

Notice what this verse assumes. It assumes that a righteous man will fall. Not once, but seven times. Seven is a number that means “as many as it takes.” Scripture never promised us a fall-free life. It promised something better: the capacity to rise.

Look at the verb. He rises. Not “is rescued,” not “waits to be lifted.” There is something active here, a participation in your own recovery that grace makes possible.

Here’s the real difference between the righteous and the wicked. It isn’t who falls more. It’s what the fall means. For one, it’s the end of the story. For the other, it’s just a chapter.

Don’t despair. Falling is not failure. It is part of success as long as you keep rising again.

Prayer: Lord, when I fall, teach me to rise again, trusting Your grace to carry me forward.

Just Today

Matthew 6:34.

“Do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”

In these words, Jesus does not tell His followers to stop planning. He does not tell them to stop thinking ahead or preparing wisely. What He does tell them to stop is worrying, and there is a real difference.

Planning uses today to prepare for tomorrow.

Worry uses today to suffer for a tomorrow that has not even arrived.

One is stewardship. The other is theft. It is robbing today of its strength before tomorrow ever shows up.

Think about what worry actually does. It does not change tomorrow’s outcome. It does not prevent tomorrow’s trouble. It simply adds tomorrow’s trouble to today’s pile, so that a person ends up carrying two days of weight while only living one day at a time.

This is how God fed Israel in the wilderness. He did not send a warehouse of manna to last a lifetime. He sent bread for one day, then asked His people to trust Him again the next morning.

Living for today, then, is not about ignoring the future. His simply teaching us to put down what belongs to tomorrow. It is not yet, yours to carry.

Prayer: Lord, Help me trust You for today.
