Jonah 1:17
“Now the LORD had appointed a great fish to swallow Jonah, and Jonah spent three days and three nights in the belly of the fish.”
Most people know the story of Jonah in one simple line: a man gets swallowed by a whale. Others know it wasn’t a whale at all, but a great fish. But the detail people miss is the most important one: The fish was an interruption. Jonah ran from God, and God answered his running with a fish.
Your life has had its own fish. Mine does too. Interruptions rarely knock politely. They come as storms, as sudden setbacks, as seasons that swallow up the plans we made.
Looking back, some of our clearest turning points happened right there, inside the interruption. Not on the mountaintop, but in the belly. Not when everything was going our way, but when nothing was.
If you’re in a season that feels like a detour, or something worse, take heart. God is not finished writing your story. That interruption may turn out to be the place where you find the path you were always meant to walk. It was for Jonah.
Prayer: Lord, help me accept where I am right now, and help me become better because of it.
