Matthew 5:13
“You are the salt of the earth.”
What does salt do? It flavors everything it touches. It preservers food. It has the power to make everything better.
Of course Jesus is not telling us about flavoring food, but flavoring the life around a Christian.
In explaining this, I beg your permission to brag just a bit. I have three kids and they are salt to me. They make my life better. My Janet enters my house and finds a messy kitchen. When she leaves it is cleaned. She takes the time to make the brownies that I love. My Ginger wants me to wear a special shirt to a graduation. She buys the shirt and brings it to me. She finds shoes on sale, buys, and ships them to me. My Jeremy comes by and plugs in my car. When he goes to Costco, he calls to see if I need anything.
In other words, they make my life better by being around me. I know you have stories like these, but here is a different question: “To whom are YOU the salt of the earth.” Make a list. Start today! That is your calling.
I’m Lonnie Davis, and these are thoughts worth thinking.
Prayer: Lord, help me make life better for those around me.
