The Gossip Trap

Proverbs 16:28:

“A perverse man spreads dissension, and a gossip separates close friends.”

A lady in my Bible class once said to all, “If it is true, I have a right to say it.” No! Not if it is gossip.

Gossip starts when someone speaks poorly of a person who is not there. In that moment, relationships begin to weaken.

One problem with gossip is that it often feels like harmless conversation, but it slowly trains the heart to see others with suspicion. It makes us look for flaws instead of goodness.

Refusing to listen protects your character, guards your relationships, and honors the dignity of another. When we choose not to speak or listen behind someone’s back, we help make the people around us feel safe, valued, and respected.

Prayer: Lord, help me close my ears to harmful words and open my heart to kindness, wisdom, and grace.
